As they slipped back into silence Kagome's stomach gave an angry growl. She blushed and smiled, placing
a hand to her belly. "Sorry" she apologized.
"It's no biggy. I'll be right back," Sango said as she stood with a grunt and getting a hand grazed
across her ass. She shot Miroku a dangerous but playful smile.
"Ugh, I gotta use the bathroom" Miroku stood and followed Sango leaving Kagome and Inu Yasha alone.
Kagome leaned against Sango's bed and closed her eyes letting out a soft sigh. Inu Yasha sat with one
arm resting atop his knee and flipping through Sango's CD case. "So what do you think of them so far?" Kagome said, peering
at Inu Yasha through one half-open eye.
"Well, I can't really say. It's been so long since I've had friends" he didn't even look up, just kept
flipping through the CD's.
She sat up straight, groaning a little at the pain in her neck and looked at him with almost pity.
"I’m sorry, I suppose you really haven't had that much time to make any long term friendships" she said quietly and
looking at her lap.
He shrugged his shoulders and glanced up at her. "To be honest, all the schools I've gone too there
were actually no people I would have considered becoming friends with."
"You're lucky. I've seen friends come and go all through my life. My old school friends left me when
my mother started prostituting herself years ago and so I've been labeled to take after her" she sighed. "Sango and Miroku
are my best friends now, I met Miroku first and about a year later Sango moved here" she smiled sadly "They've been after
one another since they practically met but never followed through with it for my sake". Her eyes welled up with silent tears
and she wiped them away angrily.
Inu Yasha crawled over and sat beside her. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close
to his chest. "I'm sorry, you must think I'm pathetic and that I always cry about everything" she mumbled pathetically.
"Hardly. You just haven't told your problems to anyone in a while and it causes you pain to talk about
them again" he said gently, squeezing her shoulder. She started sobbing again against his shoulder and trembling slightly.
They sat in silence for a moment before he could stand it no longer. "Uh, Kagome…" he said quietly.
She looked up at him, her eyes red but dry.
"What is it?" mild confusion written across her features.
He glanced in the opposite direction "I want to show you something, but you have to keep it a secret"
he pleaded with his golden eyes as he returned his gaze. She nodded and sat up as he shifted sideways as did she. He inhaled
deeply before exhaling. She sat in angst, wondering what he wanted to show her.
He raised his hands above his head to his bandana and untying it slowly. Kagome was completely confused.
"Ready?" he mumbled. She nodded as he lowered his head slightly. He slid the bandana from his head and waited for Kagome's
reaction.
She stared in utter fascination. "Are they real?" she almost whispered.
He nodded his head, "I'm a hanyou, my name is what I am" he sighed in relief about her mild reaction.
Kagome smiled, and reaching out a hand gingerly "Can I touch them?" she pleaded.
He pulled away from her hand just a bit, contemplating her reaction. "You mean you don't mind?" then
considering her question "I've never had anyone but my mother touch my ears actually" he mumbled admittedly.
"Of course I don't mind, and It's okay, it's not like I'm gunna rip them off or anything" she said,
raising herself onto her knees.
He looked into her dull gray eyes; somewhat warmer looking than they had been when they first met.
He sighed, giving in to her. "Go ahead," he mumbled.
She smiled and gingerly raised her hands to stroke each ear. They were soft and velvety, she could
see the tiny veins outlined along the outer edge and they swiveled gently at her touch. Her heart was racing yet she didn't
know why. Inu Yasha closed his eyes, She felt him relax as she continued to stroke his ears, and then a low, gruff but unmistakable
purr erupted from his throat. Kagome paused and giggled warmly. He opened his eyes and looked up at her, his eyes were bright
and warm. She stared back, lost in his golden orbs as she grinned. As they stared, Kagome's grin faded as they continued to
stare at each other their eyes telling each other what they wanted. Kagome went to sit back on her knees, but as she passed
close to his face he shifted foreword, captivating her in an innocent kiss.
Her lips were soft and smooth; he could hear her heart beating as fast as his. He could smell the excitement
and shock flooding her scent. But she relaxed and wrapped an arm around his neck, pulling herself into the kiss. She could
feel his fangs pressing against his lips. He wrapped his arms around her waist, and pulled her body against his as she felt
his claws graze gently across her back.
They finally broke apart after several seconds and just stared with lust filled eyes. "I'm guessing
you've never kissed a demon before" he whispered, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
She smiled back, nuzzling into his chest and resting her head against his shoulder just as Miroku and
Sango returned carrying snacks and drinks. Kagome shot Sango a sweet grin, who returned it. Kagome sat up but not leaving
Inu Yasha's lap. "What the hell have you guys been doing?" she asked with a small grin.
Sango and Miroku blushed. "Sango?" Kagome smirked "Miroku?"
Sango looked at her feet "Umm…making out-on the-kitchen-counter" she gradually trailed off, her
face now red enough to put a tomato to shame.
"I take it you two are going out by the looks of things" Miroku interrupted but paused noticing Inu
Yasha had removed his head band to reveal what was underneath. He only stared in shock for a moment before smiling. "And he
happens to be a demon" he said coolly.
Kagome and Inu Yasha glanced at each other. Kagome nuzzled her head against his shoulder "Pretty much,
yeah" she said simply. "Pass the party mix"
/ / /
"Oh yeah, look at this one" Miroku lifted up his shirt revealing his back. A short thick scar crossed
diagonally along his left shoulder. "My older brother did it with a chisel a few years ago"
They had now exhausted their food supply and had moved on to showing off their worst scars left by
their deepest or biggest wounds
"I remember that day, me and Kag came to see you in the hospital" Sango said.
"Ya, well check this out" Kagome raised her shirt, revealing a long thin scar across her stomach "Naraku
with a steak knife" she said simply. "Your turn Sango" she looked to the older girl.
She sat for a moment looking over her body as if seeing through her clothes. "Probably…umm…this
one" She pulled up her right pant leg up. From her ankle to her knee was a raised jagged scar about half a centimeter wide.
"My dad with scissors" she lowered her pant leg. They all peered at Inu Yasha.
He looked away, slightly embarrassed. "I…Uh…" he mumbled
Kagome placed a hand on his opposite shoulder "sorry, it's just kind of a ritual that were cool with.
Probably should have known you wouldn't have such physical memories as us" she smiled sympathetically.
"No, I actually do. Now remember, I'm of greater strength than mortals and can endure greater wounds"
he mumbled and looked down as he raised his shirt showing his stomach. Slightly to the left was a scar about the same diameter
as a tennis ball yet not perfectly round. Short jagged lines extended from it. Sango and Kagome gasped. "That’s not
all" he continued as he turned around. On the same side was a small, round scar but just as ugly.
"How'd you do that?" Sango gasped, one hand over her mouth.
"Lived in a bad part of town a few years ago, got shot in the back with a shot gun and beaten with
a crow bar. That’s the entrance wound and the one on my stomach is the exit wound." He pulled his shirt back down and
turned around. "I woke up in the hospital a day later, should have seen the doctors faces when they noticed my wound was half
way healed already" he grinned painfully. "My body was covered in bruises and my right arm was shattered in two places" he
added quietly.
"Well, that beats us by far" Miroku broke the sudden silence.
Kagome looked at her watch and yawned "We should get going soon, it's 10 o'clock"
"Really? It got late really fast" Sango said glancing at her bedside clock. "Are you actually gunna
sleep at your house Kag? You can stay here if you want"
"Don't worry, I'm staying at Inu Yasha's house" she said, rising and slinging her pack over a shoulder
and straitening her skirt.
Sango and Miroku let out a sigh of relief "Are you ever going to go back?" Miroku asked seriously.
Kagome looked at him with a sorrowful expression "I've had it with that place" she snorted.
"Well you can take turns staying at our houses till we save up enough for an apartment" Sango offered.
"Forget an apartment, we can buy a house." Everyone stared at Inu Yasha who almost took a step back
"My father left me a pile of money for college, university whatever. As if I'll ever get that far." He shrugged "But it's
well over enough for a four-bedroom house" he finished, looking at each of them in turn.
"Well its settled then" Miroku clasped his hands together with a grin. "Now we just need to find a
house close enough to school, we're just over halfway done high school but it's also close to everything we need, store wise"
"Great, now lets go outside so I can have a smoke. I don't think I've ever gone this long and not been
sleeping without one" she said eagerly. Everyone readily agreed and raced down the stairs.
Outside Kagome and Inu Yasha were leaning against Kagome's car and Sango and Miroku stood before them.
The stars shone brightly overhead, along with a last quarter moon. Their exhaled smoke shone a hazy blue in the porch light
as it raised into the calm air. Just as they were on their last few drags, Sango's father pulled into the driveway and parked
beside Kagome's car. Kagome shot her a sympathetic glance as she flicked her butt and walked around the front of her car to
the drivers' side.
"Sango, come on inside" her father ordered, with a fake smile.
"You want a ride Miroku?" Kagome said quietly as Inu Yasha got into the passenger side.
"Ya, might as well." he said sullenly taking one last glance at Sango as she entered her front door
closely followed by her father.
"I hope Sango will be alright" Kagome said, pulling out of the driveway onto the empty street
"See ya tomorrow Miroku" Kagome bid goodbye and watched him walk up his sidewalk and inside.
"Okay, now to your house" she started out of the driveway then stopped. "Umm, where exactly do you
live?" she asked looking over at him.
"Is it okay if I drive? We'll get there faster" he offered.
"Ya, that sounds good" she smiled and unbuckled her seatbelt.
h beige walls and a dark blue roof. The door was set in the center of the house with two windows on
both sides and up above on the second floor. "Well, this is it" he said, shifting the car into park and turning it off.
